Energy Efficiency Improvements in Distribution Systems
This analysis covers all of the SGIG projects that deployed smart devices on electric distribution circuits such as voltage sensors, smart capacitors, and voltage regulators for improvements in the energy efficiency of energy delivery from lower line losses, better voltage and VAR management, higher power factors, and conservation voltage reductions.
The key analysis question concerned how, and to what extent, smart grid technologies and systems reduce energy consumption and losses within electric distribution systems. Analysis objectives included:
- Determining the improvement in energy efficiency from the application of technologies used to optimize circuit voltage levels and implement conservation voltage reduction.
- Determining technology configurations that were most important for delivering measurable results.
- Quantifying the value of energy savings for utilities and customers, and from lower emissions.
