Using Smart Grid Technologies to Modernize Distribution Infrastructure in New York

This case study presents results from Consolidated Edison's (Con Edison) Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) project that includes the deployment of smart grid technologies and systems to modernize and improve the utilization of existing, overhead, 4 kV distribution circuits. Through the deployment of automated capacitors and supporting control systems, Con Edison has improved voltage management capabilities, asset utilization and capacity management, and energy efficiency.
