Last Gasp Message Outage Notification V3.0

April 2010
Electric Power Research Institute
Advanced Metering Infrastructure, AMI, Smart Grid, EPRI, use case, network interface card, nic, encapsulating security payload, esp, zero voltage event, last gasp, enterprise

This use case for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems is unique as it is initiated at the Network Interface Card (NIC) Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP) when it detects a zero voltage event lasting more than 45 seconds. The NIC ESP then issues a last gasp message that flows back to the enterprise without any request from an enterprise system.
