As directed by the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 (P.L. 110-140), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is coordinating an effort to develop a common framework and interoperability standards for the smart grid. The purpose of this hearing is to examine the progress of this effort and discuss how standards affect the development of the smart grid and the deployment of smart grid technologies
