Georgia System Operations Corporations (GSOC) Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) project modernized bulk power management and control center operations for 38 electric membership corporations (EMCs) in Georgia. The EMCs serve mostly rural and suburban customers and their service territories cover about 70% of the state. As the system operator, GSOC is responsible for controlling and monitoring electric generation, transmission, and distribution assets owned by Oglethorpe Power Corporation, Georgia Transmission Corporation, and the other EMCs.
