Tracking Deployment

The U.S. Department of Energy is responsible for tracking the technology investments made through the Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) program and Smart Grid Demonstration program (SGDP). Information from these programs will help inform all stakeholders of the potential benefits, opportunities, challenges, and limitations of smart grid technologies and systems.

SGIG Program Asset Investments

Assets are hardware, software, and programs purchased as part of the SGIG program that enable smart grid functionality. The chart below shows assets implemented through the SGIG program by system. Some projects are labeled as crosscutting or integrated, which means that they will add equipment and functions to more than one area of the electric system. The chart shows equipment that is installed and functional to date. The estimations shown below are based on the project plans submitted by the 99 recipients installing smart grid devices and include both public and private investments, reflecting the entire value of the program.
