Company Overview
South Mississippi Electric Power Association (SMEPA), located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, will receive $30.5 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy selected SMEPA as one of 100 companies to receive federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The stimulus funds will be used to install 240,000 smart meters and smart grid infrastructure across a range of SMEPA's member cooperatives, providing increased communication and monitoring for the grid.
